INNOVATION FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE

For more than 30 years, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge has brought some of the world’s brightest minds to Australia to push the boundaries of innovation and sustainability. The event challenges teams to travel across the Australian outback in vehicles powered only by the sun, showcasing what’s possible in the future of clean transport.

Teams mostly made up of university and high school students design, engineer, and build their own solar-powered cars before tackling a 3,000-kilometre journey from Darwin to Adelaide. It’s a remarkable test of creativity, teamwork, and cutting-edge technology.

Widely regarded as the world’s largest and most prestigious solar challenge, the event has been inspiring innovation since it began in 1987 and is held every two years. It attracts teams from across the globe and shines a spotlight on sustainable personal transport solutions.

The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge also plays an important role beyond the race itself. It fosters global industry partnerships across energy, automotive, engineering, materials science, finance, and IT sectors. Many former participants have gone on to work with leading companies in engineering, automotive design, and sustainable transport, turning ideas born on the outback roads into real-world impact.

Coming Back in 2027

The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge will return in 2027, once again bringing the world’s best and brightest to Australia to inspire the next generation of innovation, sustainability, and solar-powered mobility.
